If people still believed this, they would not have allowed illegal logging or clear-cutting of the forests.Īfter working with different Kenyan communities for more than two decades, the Green Belt Movement (GBM), which I led until joining the new Kenyan government in January 2003, also concluded that culture should be incorporated into any development paradigm that has at its heart the welfare of the people. If believing that God is on Mount Kenya is what helps people conserve their mountain, I say that’s okay. So the Kikuyu people were not wrong when they said that God dwelled on the mountain, because if God is omnipresent, as theology tells us, then God is on Mount Kenya too. Heaven is not above us: it is right here, right now. Men and women have gone to the moon and back and have not seen heaven. We have been looking for heaven, but we have not found it. With all due respect to the missionaries (they are the ones who really taught me), in their wisdom, or lack of it, they said, “God does not dwell on Mount Kenya. As long as they saw the clouds (the mountain is a very shy mountain, usually hiding behind clouds), they knew they would get rain.Īnd then the missionaries came. They believed that their God dwelled on the mountain and that everything good-the rains, clean drinking water-flowed from it. Mount Kenya used to be a holy mountain for my people, the Kikuyus. As I tried to encourage women and the African people in general to understand the need to conserve the environment, I discovered how crucial it is to return constantly to our cultural heritage. “What shall we do to conserve this forest?” I asked myself. Its biological diversity is threatened as the forests fall. Many of the rivers flowing from Mount Kenya have either dried up or become very low. Now, partly because of climate change and partly because of logging and encroachment through cultivation of crops, the glaciers are melting. Because it is a glacier-topped mountain, it is the source of many of Kenya’s rivers. The equator passes right on its top, and it has a unique habitat and heritage. I always check for broken links before I backup my file and I backup my file every day that I am doing research.Mount Kenya is a World Heritage Site. This is one of those things that you will want to stay on top of. When you have selected the correct file, Legacy will ask you to confirm. You will want to select Browse for the File Yourself and then use the Windows dialog box to find the correct one. Go to each Media Gallery that has a broken link one at a time. If you have to manually relink a file because Legacy can't find it, use the log file that was generated. It is always a good idea to give each of your media files a unique file name so that you don't have to deal with this problem. If this is the case, this will save you a ton of time. I also have the option of telling Legacy that all of the unlinked files are in the same file hierarchy. Notice that I have 36 files on my computer with the very same name so Legacy wants me to choose which one I want to relink to. If it finds more than one file with the exact same name it will ask you which one is correct. If you are using Windows 10 and the Media Relinker hangs, please see THIS ARTICLE for the fix. If you need to rename a PDF or other non image file, you will need to manually relink it. If you ever need to rename an image file please use Tools > Picture Center so that your links do not break. It will have no problem finding the files if they have only been moved. However, if you have RENAMED the files Legacy will not be able to find them. Select Relink My Media which will start the process.īefore you get started, you can click the Drives to Search button if you have a partitioned drive or are using an external hard drive. Legacy's Media Relinker will try to relink the media automatically. She posted this on our Legacy User Group Facebook Page in response to several questions about the Media Relinker. This screenshot comes from Cathy Pinner, one of our lead beta testers. The log file has the information you need to relink manually. You will want to say Yes here so that you can see the names of the files and where they are supposed to be attached in case Legacy can't automatically relink your media. ![]() If you have broken links, this is what you will see instead: Tools > Media Relinker is available in both the free Standard version of Legacy and Legacy Deluxe, Version 8 and later. Legacy has a way for you to find these broken links and fix them. Sometimes, however, one or more of the links to the media files gets broken.
